Mise en Place: London Broil

We are not dining out (for a variety of reasons), so tonight I am making one of Lou’s favorites.  He had offered to order take-out so I wouldn’t have to cook, but I’d rather have a really nice Valentine’s Day dinner.  We will have this with a mushroom risotto and a wedge salad with bleu cheese.

1 1/2 lb Top round steak, cut about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick

1/2 bottle soy sauce

1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger (or ground ginger)

3-4 cloves garlic, crushed

lemon pepper

  • Combine the soy sauce, ginger and garlic in a zippered bag. Add the meat and marinate several hours, turning occasionally.

  • Remove the meat from the marinade and pat dry. Sprinkle both sides with lemon pepper.

  • Heat grill to high heat. Grill meat about 4 minutes on each side for medium rare. Allow the steak to rest 5 minutes before carving into thin slices.
